2.8 Stars Thank you so much to Penguin Random House for sending me a copy of this novel in exchange for my HONEST thoughts and opinions on it. This review is spoiler free. Okay. So, I was not expecting to get this book so when I got it I was surprised and looked at the cover. When I get a book sent to me that I don't know anything about, or one I pick up that I don't know anything about, theI first do a cover analysis (Basically judging the book by its cover. But saying cover analysis it makes it sound better and makes me feel less guilty about judging it.) So, here is my analysis at my first glance. Cover Analysis: At first glance of this book my brain just automatically think that it is going to be a sci-fi novel. Maybe it would have aliens in it. I assumed it would be a romance between the human boy on the cover and some alien that lived on their home planet. The title even sounds like it would be a sci-fi book. (Boy was I wrong.) When I get a book that I know nothing about I don't read the back to tell me what it's about. I want to be fully surprised. Might be weird to some, but it's the way I do it. So, I just dove right into reading the book. It was not what I thought it would be based on at all. For the first like 3 chapters I was super confused because it had nothing to do with sci-fi topics. That was totally fine with me and I just kept going. Soon I got over the fact that it was not a sci-fi novel and enjoyed it for what it was. This book is set in the 90's. Which is not something you see with many books that are out now. This book really gave me a Perk's Of Being A Wallflower, A Walk To Remember, and If I Stay vibe to it. I feel like if you mix all those books together you will get a variation of a book like this. As for this book. I wasn't a major fan of it because I found it really hard to keep reading simply because in the beginning things happened so quickly. Then after about maybe the 6th chapter I found things to become a bit slower which made me less interested in it. Plus I really couldn't relate to the characters. Maybe because I wasn't a teen in the 90's. (I was born in the 90's so I was a kid in the 90's) Or maybe it was just the fact that some of these characters seemed really stereotyped. I don't want to give spoilers away so here is an example for what I mean for without any spoilers. I mean if you have a member of the band you take them and make them super nerdy. Or like a dumb blonde. I just felt like in this book they were what you would expect their stereotype would be. This is just my opinion, others may not look at it the same way I did. All in all this book had an interesting concept and writing style. It wasn't a bad book and it wasn't a good book. It was just in the middle. Disclaimer: These are my thoughts, opinions, and personal preferences when it comes to books. Something I may like you may not like. Something I don't like you may love. It's all my personal thoughts. Please keep that in mind when you are debating wether to read a book based on a review of mine. |

I read this my freshman year of high school. My entire class hated the book, but I loved it.
I read this book for school a few years ago. I don't remember much about it other than liking it. I should re-read it one of these days.
I read this book for school last year and it was not my type of book. I was not a fan at all.

I really loved this book. One of my friends made me read it because she said it was so good. I wasn't quite convinced, but it was an amazing book and I literally couldn't put it down.
